Connecting Attio
Overview
Trailspark Accounts keeps a live list of your scored accounts inside Attio, next to the lists you already use. Connecting Attio creates that list for you. Each row sits on one of your own companies, so the score is one click from the company record.
Go to Settings > Integrations > Attio. The page has two tabs:
- Connection: a Setup checklist, connection health, and Disconnect Attio.
- Destination: what Trailspark sends to Attio. The on switch, which accounts and people get a row, and Trailspark Leads.
There is no Field Mapping tab. Trailspark matches an account to your company by its main company website, and a person by email address, and it reads nothing else from your workspace.
Before you connect
- Permission. Trailspark asks for permission to create records in Attio. It is only used if you switch on Add missing companies and people to Attio, which is off by default.
- What the approval screen lists. Attio shows four permissions: read and write records, read object configuration, read and write list entries, and read and write list configuration.
- What Trailspark creates. A Trailspark Accounts list as soon as you connect (it stays empty until you turn on sending), and a Trailspark Leads list only if you switch Leads on.
- Who can connect. Someone with editor access or higher in your Trailspark workspace.
Info
If your access in Trailspark is view only, the page says so and stops there. An owner, admin, or editor in your workspace needs to set this up.
Step 1: Connect
Click Connect Attio. You are sent to Attio to approve access, then brought back to the Attio page in Trailspark, which now reads Connected. Connecting also creates the Trailspark Accounts list in your workspace, empty for now. The Setup checklist on the Connection tab shows step 1 done and offers Go to Destination for step 2. If you are already connected, the same button reads Reconnect Attio, and it keeps your existing lists.
Step 2: Choose who goes on the list and turn on sending
On the Destination tab, turn on Send to Attio. This starts loading accounts onto the Trailspark Accounts list. The page confirms "Sending to Attio is on. The first accounts arrive within the hour." Turning the switch on or off also saves your settings.
Once it is on, the tab shows:
- Which accounts get a row: all ICPs. Choose any of High, Medium, and Low. Once an account has a row it stays and is kept up to date, whatever its level does next. ICPs left on the default follow those levels; give one its own levels when it should be treated differently.
- Add missing companies and people to Attio. Off by default. When a company or person is not in Attio yet, Trailspark adds it, so every row links to a record of your own. Leave this off to only link to records you already have.
- Trailspark Leads. A second list with one row per person, off by default. See Your Trailspark Leads list in Attio.
Click Save settings after you change levels. When both steps are done, the Setup card reads "All set. We keep Trailspark Accounts up to date in Attio."
Step 3: Open your new list for the first time
The list, its fields, and your data are already there, but a new list has no view. On the Connection tab, click Open Trailspark Accounts to go to it in Attio, then:
- Under Start with a view, choose Table. Until you do, the list looks empty.
- The new table shows only the Company column, with the message "Add your first attribute column." Click Add column.
- The picker lists your Company attributes first, so type the name of the Trailspark field in the box that reads "Search attributes..." and pick it. Add the ones you want to see, for example Propensity, Score status, ICP, What changed, Next step, and Trailspark link.
If you turned on Trailspark Leads, repeat these steps for it after you save: click Open Trailspark Leads on the same tab and set up its table the same way.
Every column is described on Your Trailspark Accounts list in Attio.
Recolor these options (optional, about a minute)
Attio picks a color for each option of the status fields when Trailspark creates them. Attio does not let an integration set colors, so Trailspark cannot choose them for you, and it never changes a color you set. To choose your own:
- In Attio, go to Settings > Lists > Trailspark Accounts > Attributes.
- Click the ⋮ on the attribute's row, then Edit attribute.
- Click a status, then click its dot, and pick one of the 12 swatches.
For example, you might make Propensity High green, Medium amber, and Low grey. On Trailspark Leads, you might make Lead score Hot red, Warm amber, and Cold blue.
Only the status fields have colors: Propensity, Score status, and Lead score. At risk is a select field, and Attio does not give select options a color, so it cannot be colored. Recoloring never makes Trailspark think anything is wrong, and it does not trigger any updates.
Disconnecting, and what stays behind
On the Connection tab, click Disconnect Attio. The dialog reads "Disconnect Attio?" and says:
Trailspark will stop updating your lists and lose access to your Attio workspace. The Trailspark Accounts and Trailspark Leads lists stay in Attio with everything on them; delete them in Attio if you no longer want them. You can connect again at any time.
Click Disconnect Attio again to confirm. What stays behind:
- The Trailspark app stays in Attio under Settings > Apps, marked Installed, until you uninstall it there. Disconnecting in Trailspark is not the same as uninstalling it in Attio.
- Both lists stay with all their data, but Trailspark no longer updates them.
- To delete a list by hand, go to Settings > Lists in Attio, click the ⋮ on the list, and choose Delete list. Attio's confirmation reads "Deleting a list deletes its data and views permanently and cannot be undone." There is no archive, so be sure.
If you connect again, Trailspark picks up the lists that are still there.
If something needs fixing
The Connection tab tells you plainly what is wrong and what to do. Common cases:
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Finish setup | A choice is still open. Finish the settings and save. |
| Disconnected | Attio is disconnected, so the list is no longer updated. Your lists stay in Attio. Click Reconnect Attio to carry on. |
| Needs reconnecting | Trailspark can no longer sign in to Attio, or needs a permission in Attio that it does not have. Click Reconnect Attio and approve access again. |
| Needs repair | Something in Attio needs fixing before the list can be kept up to date, for example a list or column that is missing. The message names it. Click Repair. |
If you delete a Trailspark list in Attio, Repair builds a new one. Your rows come back on the next update. Rows for accounts that were merged away are not restored. The new list starts fresh, so you need to open it for the first time again (choose Table, add your columns) and redo any recoloring.
If you archive one of Trailspark's columns, Trailspark un-archives it for you on its next daily check, or right away when you click Repair. Attio only offers Archive attribute for a list column, never delete.
The full list of badges is on Connection health.
